First peanut taste, in porridge
- Age: 6–8 months (First tastes)
- Texture: Purée
- Prep: 3 min
- Cook: 5 min
- Makes: 1 portion
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp fine oats
- 120 ml your baby's usual milk
- 1 tsp smooth peanut butter, no added salt or sugar
Contains: Peanut, Wheat
Method
- Cook the oats with the milk over low heat for 4–5 minutes, stirring, until thick and soft.
- Take the pan off the heat. Stir the peanut butter in thoroughly while the porridge is still hot, so it dissolves completely and leaves no sticky pockets.
- Loosen with a little extra milk until it is smooth and easily swallowed.
- Cool to lukewarm. Offer a small amount on the tip of a spoon and wait a few minutes before offering more.
Safety: Never whole peanuts, never chopped nuts, never a blob of stiff peanut butter — all three are choking hazards. Only smooth peanut butter, thinned into something else.
Storage: Serve fresh.
Tip: Offer this in the morning, on a day when you are at home and not rushing out. That way you have the whole day to notice anything.
