Tomato and lentil soup with bread
- Age: 12–18 months (Family food)
- Texture: Family meal
- Prep: 10 min
- Cook: 35 min
- Makes: 2 adults and 2 children
Ingredients
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 carrot, chopped
- 100 g red lentils
- 400 g tinned tomatoes, no added salt
- 500 ml unsalted stock
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 slices wholemeal bread
Contains: Wheat
Method
- Soften the onion and carrot in the oil 8 minutes.
- Add the lentils, tomatoes and stock. Simmer 25 minutes.
- Blend smooth or leave chunky. Serve lukewarm with bread fingers for dunking; salt the adults' bowls.
Safety: Serve lukewarm; soup holds heat. Serve your child's portion first, then salt the rest for the adults.
Storage: Fridge 3 days, freezer 2 months.
Tip: Dunking bread is a skill toddlers love and a way to get soup into a child who will not use a spoon.
