Soft polenta with cheese
- Age: 8–10 months (New textures)
- Texture: Mash
- Prep: 2 min
- Cook: 8 min
- Makes: 2 portions
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp fine polenta
- 200 ml water
- 2 tbsp your baby's usual milk
- 1 tbsp mild cheddar, grated
Contains: Milk
Method
- Bring the water to a simmer and whisk in the polenta in a stream.
- Cook 5–8 minutes, stirring, until thick and smooth. Stir in the milk and cheese.
- Cool to lukewarm — it thickens as it cools.
Safety: A tablespoon of cheese, no more; it is one of the saltier foods a baby meets.
Storage: Fridge 1 day; it sets solid, so loosen with milk when reheating.
Tip: Polenta is naturally gluten-free and takes any flavour. Cold leftovers cut into fingers and bake — see the polenta fingers.
