Family lentil pasta
- Age: 12–18 months (Family food)
- Texture: Family meal
- Prep: 10 min
- Cook: 25 min
- Makes: 2 adults and 1 child
Ingredients
- 150 g small pasta shapes
- 4 tbsp red lentils
- 400 g tinned chopped tomatoes, no added salt
- 1 carrot, finely diced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
Contains: Wheat
Method
- Soften the carrot in the oil over low heat for 5 minutes.
- Add the lentils, tomatoes, oregano and a splash of water. Simmer 20 minutes until the lentils have collapsed into the sauce.
- Cook the pasta separately in unsalted water and stir it through.
- Serve your child's portion first, then salt the rest of the pan for the adults.
Safety: Check tinned tomatoes for added salt — many brands include it.
Storage: Fridge 3 days, freezer 2 months.
Tip: Salting the pan only after the child's portion is out is the habit that lets one meal feed everybody. It is worth building early.
