First shellfish: prawn and pea rice
- Age: 12–18 months (Family food)
- Texture: Family meal
- Prep: 8 min
- Cook: 20 min
- Makes: 2 adults and 2 children
Ingredients
- 150 g raw prawns, peeled
- 200 g rice
- 4 tbsp peas
- 1 spring onion, chopped
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
Contains: Shellfish, Sesame
Method
- Cook the rice. Fry the prawns in the vegetable oil 3–4 minutes until pink right through.
- Add the rice, peas and spring onion; toss with the sesame oil.
- Chop your child's prawns small. Offer a little first and wait before more; salt the adults' portions.
Safety: Prawns cooked through and chopped small. Cool cooked rice quickly. Serve your child's portion first, then salt the rest for the adults.
Storage: Eat the day it is made.
Tip: Shellfish is the last of the major allergens to introduce, and prawns are the easy one. Chopped small they are soft; whole they are a choking shape.
