Mild moussaka
- Age: 12–18 months (Family food)
- Texture: Family meal
- Prep: 20 min
- Cook: 70 min
- Makes: 2 adults and 2 children
Ingredients
- 300 g lamb mince
- 1 onion, chopped
- 400 g tinned tomatoes, no added salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 aubergines, sliced
- 300 ml milk
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp plain flour
- 2 tbsp grated cheese
Contains: Milk, Wheat
Method
- Brown the mince with the onion; add the tomatoes and cinnamon and simmer 20 minutes.
- Roast the aubergine slices with a little oil 20 minutes. Make a white sauce with the butter, flour and milk.
- Layer aubergine and mince, top with white sauce and cheese, and bake at 190 °C for 30 minutes. Cool your child's; salt the adults'.
Safety: Cool your child's portion — the centre holds heat. Serve your child's portion first, then salt the rest for the adults.
Storage: Fridge 3 days, freezer 2 months.
Tip: Cinnamon in the mince is what makes it Greek. Aubergine baked this long is soft enough for a one-year-old.
