Sardine and tomato mash

Sardine and tomato mash

Ingredients

  • 1 tinned sardine in olive oil, no added salt
  • 1 small potato
  • 2 tbsp passata, no added salt

Contains: Fish

Method

  1. Peel, dice and steam the potato 12 minutes.
  2. Remove the sardine's backbone and any large bones; mash the flesh — the tiny bones are soft and safe.
  3. Mash with the potato and passata. Cool to lukewarm.
Safety: Backbone out; tin without added salt.
Storage: Serve fresh.
Tip: Sardines are the cheapest oily fish and one of the best: omega-3, calcium from the soft bones, and low in mercury.
